BBB Torch Scholarships recognize students who personify high ethical standards as demonstrated through leadership, community service, overall personal integrity, and academic history.Torch Scholarships are given to college-bound high school juniors, seniors, and college undergraduates who reside or attend school within BBB of Eastern North Carolina's 33-county service area. Scholarship prizes totaling $15,000 will be awarded.
Fall 2016 Torch Scholarships Awards:
To be eligible, students must submit essay of 1,000 words or less, along with an application, transcript and a letter of recommendation from a BBB Accredited Business. Completed application packets are due by 5 p.m., November 30, 2016.
This scholarship program was created in 1995 to recognize students in middle level and high school grades who have made meaningful contributions to their communities through volunteer service. These prestigious awards, sponsored by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), are presented annually on the local, state and national levels.
Interested students should submit completed applications to their school, or the head of one of the following local organizations: a Girl Scout council, county 4-H organization, American Red Cross chapter, YMCA, or affiliate of HandsOn Network. Applications and their parents or guardians also must complete the applications form's signature page.
Completed applications are due no later than November 8, 2016.
"Nuestra Juventud," Univision 40's Scholarship Program recognizes the academic achievements and leadership qualities among Hispanic High School Seniors (12th grade) in the WUVC-Univision 40 viewing area.
Eligiblity:Candidates must be entering the 12th grade, must be applying to a college/university in the fall of 2017 and must be of Hispanic descent.
Criteria: The winners will be chosen based on Leadership, Academic Achievement, Hardship and Character.
Application process: Candidates must submit a copy of the school transcripts; a completed application; answers to the questions below (max. three pages may be used to answer the questions) and a clear picture, all in one packet.
Scholarship Award: $1,000. All scholarship awards will be sent directly to the college/university. Failure to enroll in the Fall 2017 will result in forfeiture of the scholarship.

Davidson College invites high schools from across the country and abroad to nominate outstanding students with extraordinary potential to compete for the John M. Belk Scholarship. A candidate's record and recommendations must demonstrate academic excellence and purposeful engagement in the classroom, with student and civic organizations, on the athletic field, or in the arts. While academic achievement is paramount, Belk Scholars also exhibit intellectual curiosity and commitment to both their local and global communities.
